Michael Elwan Winner - 2026 Suicide Prevention Australia LiFE Award (Priority Populations), Western Australia - Lived Experience Solutions (LEXs)

I’m grateful to share that Lived Experience Solutions (LEXs) has received the Suicide Prevention Australia LiFE Award for Priority Populations in Western Australia.

The Priority Populations category recognises initiatives that improve suicide prevention responses for communities disproportionately impacted by suicide.

For me, this recognition reflects the importance of ensuring suicide prevention work reaches communities that often face barriers to support.

Priority populations and suicide prevention

Many communities experience additional challenges when accessing mental health support.

These challenges may include cultural stigma, migration stress, language barriers, or services that do not feel culturally safe.

Through LEXs, I work to support individuals and organisations navigating these realities.

This includes therapy, supervision for practitioners, training, and consultancy focused on strengthening culturally responsive mental health practice.

Supporting multicultural communities

Australia’s multicultural communities bring extraordinary resilience and strength.

At the same time, many individuals navigating migration, cultural identity, and intergenerational expectations carry complex emotional pressures.

Part of my work involves supporting individuals and organisations to better understand these dynamics so that support can feel respectful, culturally aware, and accessible.

Recognition through the LiFE Awards

Receiving the Priority Populations Suicide Prevention LiFE Award reinforces the importance of continuing this work.

Suicide prevention is strongest when communities feel seen, respected, and supported.

I’m grateful to Suicide Prevention Australia for recognising the work being done across Australia to strengthen suicide prevention in diverse communities.

Where care feels human again

Lived Experience Solutions (LEXs) acknowledges the Traditional Owners and Custodians of Country throughout Australia and recognises their continuing connection to land, waters, culture and community. We pay our respects to Elders past and present.

At LEXs, lived and living experience sits at the heart of the work. I value the knowledge of individuals, families, carers and kin who navigate mental health challenges, distress and recovery, and whose expertise helps make care more human, compassionate and responsive. I am particularly committed to the wellbeing of multicultural communities, whose experiences are too often overlooked in mainstream mental health systems.

LEXs is committed to providing a respectful, inclusive and affirming space for people of all ages, abilities, neurotypes, cultures, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, body sizes and lived experiences.

If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 000. For 24/7 crisis support, contact Lifeline on 13 11 14. LEXs is not an emergency or crisis response service. A list of 24/7 crisis support lines across Australia is available here.
