Conflict of Interest and Professional Integrity Statement
Lived Experience Solutions (LEXs)
Purpose
Lived Experience Solutions (LEXs) is committed to acting with professional integrity, independence, and transparency across all services provided. This statement explains how conflicts of interest are understood and managed in a sole-trader practice delivering therapy, supervision, consultancy, training, and related professional services.
Understanding conflicts of interest
A conflict of interest arises when personal, professional, financial, or relational interests could reasonably be seen to influence professional judgment, decision-making, or advice.
Conflicts of interest may be:
-
actual, where an interest directly influences a decision
-
potential, where an interest could influence a decision in the future
-
perceived, where a reasonable person might believe an interest could influence judgment, even if it does not
Conflicts of interest are not uncommon in professional practice. They do not automatically imply wrongdoing, but they require careful recognition and management.
Commitment to professional integrity
LEXs is committed to:
-
acting in the best interests of clients, supervisees, participants, and organisations
-
exercising independent and unbiased professional judgment
-
being transparent where interests may reasonably be perceived to influence decisions
-
avoiding arrangements where professional objectivity cannot be maintained
Professional integrity means that decisions are guided by ethical obligations, evidence-informed practice, and the specific context of the service provided; not by personal gain, convenience, or external pressure.
How conflicts of interest are managed
When a potential or actual conflict of interest is identified, LEXs considers factors such as:
-
the nature of the interest involved (financial or non-financial)
-
the level of influence or power held within the relationship
-
whether professional judgment could reasonably be questioned
-
whether disclosure, separation of roles, or referral is appropriate
Depending on the circumstances, this may involve:
-
transparent discussion with the relevant party
-
clarification of roles, expectations, or limits of service
-
informed consent where appropriate
-
declining or ending a service where independence cannot be maintained
Decisions are made on a case-by-case basis, recognising the diversity and complexity of contexts in which LEXs operates.
Financial and professional interests
LEXs may engage in a range of professional activities, including private practice, consultancy, training, writing, and advisory work. Where these activities intersect, care is taken to ensure that:
-
recommendations or referrals are based on professional merit, not personal benefit
-
financial interests are not allowed to compromise professional judgment
-
services are not promoted or extended in ways that create undue influence or dependency
LEXs does not accept or offer inducements that could reasonably be seen to influence professional decision-making.
Transparency and accountability
Where a conflict of interest may reasonably be perceived, LEXs aims to address it openly and respectfully. Clients, supervisees, and organisations are encouraged to raise questions or concerns about professional independence or decision-making at any time.
LEXs engages in ongoing professional reflection and supervision to support ethical judgment, particularly in complex or high-stakes contexts.
Relationship to other practice statements
This statement should be read alongside:
-
the Boundaries and Multiple Roles Statement, which addresses role overlap and relationship management
-
service-specific terms and informed consent documents, which outline expectations and limits within each service context
Together, these documents support ethical practice, clarity, and trust.
Questions or concerns
If you have questions or concerns about conflicts of interest or professional integrity in your work with LEXs, you are encouraged to raise them directly.
