Online Anger Management Counselling Across Australia
Online anger management counselling at LEXs is individual therapy for adults across Australia, delivered by secure video by Michael Elwan, an Accredited Social Worker based in Perth. Sessions work on two things at once: practical strategies that lower the heat now, and what the anger is protecting underneath. Available in English, Arabic, or both. No GP referral needed.
Most people who land on this page did not get here after one bad day. They got here after a pattern. The same argument escalating the same way. A tone at work that someone finally named. A partner who has gone quiet. Kids who flinch at a raised voice. Or the private, exhausting effort of holding it in all day and detonating at home.
If that is you, two things are true at once. The anger is causing real damage, and the anger is almost never the whole story. This is online anger management counselling that works on both.
What anger usually turns out to be
Anger is the emotion men in particular are permitted, so it ends up doing the work of all the others. Underneath it, in session after session, sit more uncomfortable things: shame, fear, grief, humiliation, exhaustion, the feeling of not being respected, of failing people, of carrying too much without saying so. Anger guards the door to all of that, and it is very good at its job.
Counselling that only teaches you to count backwards from ten treats the guard and ignores the door. Techniques matter, and you will get practical ones early, because the people around you need the temperature down now. Lasting change comes from working out what your anger is protecting, where you learned it, and what it costs you to keep paying its wages.
There is often a cultural layer too. If you grew up between cultures, anger can carry pressures no one around you sees: expectations from family, experiences of disrespect or racism, the gap between who you are at home and who you are allowed to be outside it. That context belongs in the work, and it is a large part of my practice. Sessions are available in Arabic, English, or both.
How online anger management counselling works at LEXs
The shape of the work is usually this:
-
Map it. We build an accurate picture of when the anger fires, how fast, and what it looks like from the outside as well as the inside.
-
Lower the heat. You get practical strategies in the first few sessions, because the people around you need something to change now, not in six months.
-
Look underneath. We work out what the anger is doing for you and what it is protecting you from feeling.
-
Go where it leads. The marriage, the job, the family history, the load you are carrying. Anger is usually a symptom of something with an address.
-
Review openly. We check whether this is working, out loud, and you are never locked into a program length.
Fees and practicalities
Sessions are $200 for 60 minutes, paid at booking. Longer 90-minute sessions are $260.
If you are unsure whether I am the right person for this, a free 15-minute video call is available. It is a conversation about fit, not a session.
Who you would be working with
I'm Michael Elwan, an Accredited Social Worker, a PhD candidate in mental health at Charles Sturt University, and the founder of LEXs. I work from Perth with clients across Australia by telehealth. Men's mental health, and the long aftermath of family violence, are areas I work with regularly in practice, alongside advisory work in suicide prevention and multicultural mental health. Frequently asked questions
Is online anger management counselling the same as an anger management course?
No. Courses teach a set syllabus of techniques, usually in a group, sometimes with a certificate at the end. Online anger management counselling is individual work on your actual situation: your triggers, your relationships, your history, and what the anger is doing for you. There is no fixed program length and no certificate.
My partner says I am controlling and I disagree. Can we work on that here?
We can examine it honestly, and I will not promise you the comfortable answer. Sometimes what a partner calls controlling is conflict both people are mishandling. Sometimes it is control. Part of my job is telling the difference and telling you the truth about it. If it is control, individual anger work is not the right service and I will say so.
How many sessions does it take?
Practical gains often come inside the first three or four sessions, because those sessions focus on lowering the temperature. The work underneath varies with what is driving the anger: grief, shame, a job, a marriage, a childhood. We review openly as we go and you are never locked into a program length. Most people know within four sessions whether this is helping.
Does anger work actually help by video?
Yes. The work is conversation, reflection, and practice between sessions, all of which telehealth handles well. Being at home for it also means you are practising in the place where most of the anger actually happens, rather than in a consulting room. Sessions are by secure video from anywhere in Australia, in English, Arabic, or both.
Do I need a GP referral or a diagnosis?
No. LEXs is a private practice, so you book directly online with no referral and no mental health treatment plan. I am an Accredited Social Worker and not Medicare-registered, so there is no rebate and nothing about your care enters the Medicare system. Anger is not a diagnosis and you do not need a label to work on it.
